“She’s an Olympic athlete, and random testing goes along with that,” Rowley tells me, “but I think there is the perception that any kind of testing sort of implies guilt. Which is not at all true, but that’s how we have been conditioned to think.” Rowley and Vonn became friends because of an avid interest in each other’s worlds (Rowley is a sports-obsessed surfer; Vonn is a fashion-obsessed shopper and a representative for the luxury-skiwear label Jet Set). “I saw firsthand that night how committed she has to be,” says Rowley, “and not just to physical training but to the lifestyle that goes along with it.”
